A Morning Mobility Routine for Starting Less Stiff

by Enjoy the Pain Editorial Team | Sep 22, 2026 | Training

A morning mobility routine could offer a practical way to address the stiffness many people feel after waking. Movesmethod’s latest video presents 13 controlled exercises for the ankles, spine, shoulders and hips, with the full sequence designed to take less than 10 minutes.

A Morning Mobility Routine Built Around Control

The sequence begins with toe stand rocks, ankle flexion and circles, then moves into half-lunge ankle rocks and toe raise bounces. Together, these opening drills introduce gradual movement through the feet and lower body without requiring equipment.

Movesmethod then shifts to cat-cow, downward dog extensions and gentle dynamic bounces. The video emphasizes slow, controlled ranges of motion, breathing and staying within a comfortable limit rather than forcing flexibility.

From Squats to 90/90 Hip Switches

Five full-depth squats provide a lower-body warm-up before the routine moves into a seated spinal twist and knee press. The twist encourages thoracic rotation, while pressing the elbows against the knees actively opens the hips.

The final exercises are a wall push-away, squat spinal flexion and the 90/90 hip switch. These movements continue the focus on active control across the shoulders, upper back, spine and hips. A block, rolled towel or other support can be used when needed, including during the 90/90 position to reduce pressure on the knees.

Why It Matters for Training

For fitness and sports readers, the appeal is its brevity and broad coverage. The routine offers a structured way to move through several commonly trained areas before lifting, running, conditioning or simply starting the day.

Modifications make the sequence more accessible across different mobility levels. Its central message is straightforward: consistent, controlled movement may help the body feel less stiff and more capable without turning a morning warm-up into a lengthy session.
