For athletes chasing a broader-looking upper body, the lateral deltoid is one of the most valuable muscles to target. Positioned along the outer shoulder, it adds roundness and increases the visual distance between the torso and upper arms, helping create stronger shoulder-to-waist contrast.
Why the Lateral Deltoid Matters
The deltoid has front, side and rear regions, but the lateral portion most directly influences shoulder width from the front. It cannot change the clavicles or underlying skeletal structure, yet adding muscle around the shoulder joint can significantly alter the body’s outline.
